Sodium Acetate Trihydrate

Introduction

Sodium Acetate Trihydrate has the chemical formula CH3COONa.3H2O with a CAS Number of 6131-90-4. It is the most common hydrated form of the sodium salt of acetic acid.

Molecular weight: 136.08 g/mol
Density: 1.45 g/cm3
Sodium acetate trihydrate boiling point: 122.8°C
Melting point: 58°C.

Sodium Ethanoate Trihydrate has the appearance of an off-white to a white crystallized solid. It is highly soluble in water and ethanol (96%).

Sodium Acetate Trihydrate Production

Vishnupriya Chemicals Private Limited manufactures Sodium acetate trihydrate with a well-qualified and experienced production team.

The production of Sodium Ethanoate Trihydrate involves a reaction between sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate and acetic acid in an aqueous solution. The solution formed is allowed to evaporate to get Sodium acetate trihydrate crystals.

Key Properties

→ Off-white to white crystalline solid
→ Efflorescent in warm or dry air
→ Soluble in water and alcohol
→ Weak base compound (pH 7.5-9.5)

Sodium Acetate Trihydrate Uses:

Sodium acetate trihydrate is an alkalinizer, diuretic, electrolyte replacement, preservative, pH regulator, sour agent, seasoning agent, emulsifier, buffering agent, pickling agent, and mordant.

Food Industry: Sodium ethanoate trihydrate acts as an emulsifier, acidity regulator, and preservative, adding a salty and vinegar flavour to potato chips. It also acts as a meat preservative agent.

Pharmaceutical Industry: Sodium ethanoate trihydrate is a diuretic, expectorant, and replenisher of lost electrolytes. Reusable heating pads and hand warmers use it. Parenteral solution and dialysis solution preparation also use it.

Industrial Applications: Sodium ethanoate trihydrate is used as a reagent in analytical chemistry, as a foot warmer, as a milk bottle warmer, in the manufacturing of dry colours, rubber, electroplating, the production of cinnamic acid, and acetic anhydrite, copper acetate, soaps, and the purification of glucose.

Textile and Synthetic Rubber Production: Sodium ethanoate trihydrate neutralizes strong sulfuric acids (industrial mineral acid discharge) found in waste streams, facilitates aniline dye take-up, and protects aniline dye. It acts as a mordant in dyeing fabrics.

Leather Industry: Sodium ethanoate trihydrate is a buffering agent for leather tanning.

Other Uses:

Acts as a buffer in producing cosmetics, petroleum products, and electroplating.
Used as a part of the buffer system when combined with acetic acid in various medical formulations.
Used to decrease the bitterness of oral drugs.
It is helpful in certain photography processes to help impart a specific coating pattern on surfaces.
It acts as a buffering reagent in Analytical Chemistry to eliminate the effect of strong acids.
Therapeutic use in Veterinary medicine in Bovine Ketosis.
